As a federally funded nonprofit established by Congress in 1974, ºÚÁÏרÇø is subject to regular and robust oversight by both the executive and legislative branches of government.
Oversight Highlights:
- ºÚÁÏרÇø reports annually to Congress, providing detailed updates on operations, financial performance and program outcomes.
- ºÚÁÏרÇø’s Board of Directors is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, ensuring bipartisan accountability. The Board is required to be bipartisan in its makeup, ensuring no more than six members of the same political party on its eleven-member Board.
- Congress exercises ongoing budgetary and programmatic oversight through appropriations hearings, written reports and direct engagement with ºÚÁÏרÇø leadership.

Inspector General Act
